What Fall Does to a Vehicle

Nothing Breaks in October.
It Breaks in January — Because of October.

Southwest Missouri runs hot, then cold, fast. Everything summer loosened up, the first freeze finds. Here's what we look at, and why it matters between now and spring.

🔋

Batteries & Starting

Summer heat kills the battery; the first cold morning just tells you about it. We load-test instead of waiting for a no-start in a dark driveway.

🌡️

Cooling & Antifreeze

Wrong coolant mix and a hard freeze is a cracked block, not an inconvenience. We check concentration, hoses, and the radiator.

🛑

Brakes on Wet Roads

Wet leaves, early frost, and dark drives home. Stopping distance is not the place to gamble heading into deer season.

Diesel Fuel System

Cold weather is when fuel filters, water separators, and glow plugs finally speak up. Handle it before the truck is needed most.

🛞

Tires & Alignment

Tread that got you through summer won't get you up a wet gravel road loaded down. We check depth, pressure, and wear pattern.

🪫

Belts, Hoses & Fluids

Rubber that baked all summer gets brittle when it drops below freezing. Cheap to replace now. Expensive to replace on the shoulder.

Heavy-Duty, Fleet & RV — All Under One Roof

"We'll tell you what it needs, what it doesn't, and what it'll cost — before we turn a wrench."

— Dry Fork Diesel & Auto · Carthage, MO

Dry Fork is named for the creek that ran through Darren's dad's property — he wanted the shop to be bigger than any one name. It started in a barn behind the house and grew into the flagship Carthage shop: a dozen extra-tall lifts and a bay long enough to pull a semi and trailer straight in.

Carthage handles what most shops turn away — heavy-duty semis, fleets, RVs, and F-150-through-F550 work trucks. And when something breaks, the goal is simple: fix it once, so you're not back in six months with the same problem.

Why Now

From Here to 2027,
Your Truck Gets No Breaks

School traffic, harvest, deer season, holiday hauls, and the first hard freeze — all inside the next four months.

Right Now · August

The Open Bay

Weather's still fair and the schedule's still yours. Cheapest, easiest time of year to fix what summer wore out.

Sept–Oct · Harvest

Corn & Bean Season

Grain trucks, trailers, and long days through corn and soybean harvest. A truck down in harvest costs a lot more than the repair ever would have.

Nov–Dec · First Freeze

Where It All Shows Up

Deer season, holiday miles, and the first hard freeze. Weak batteries, thin antifreeze, and brittle belts all fail the same week.

January · 2027

Start the Year Running

Sorted now, you roll into 2027 inspected and ready — instead of starting the year in someone's tow queue.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything the first freeze tests: battery load test, cooling system and antifreeze concentration, belts and hoses, brakes, tires and tread depth, fluids, lights, and — on diesels — the fuel filter and water separator. You get told what's urgent, what can wait, and what it costs before anything gets done.
Both. Diesel is in the name because that's the specialty, but the same shop handles cars, SUVs, and light trucks — domestic, Asian, and European. One shop for the whole driveway.
We do — and it's the difference most people notice. A lot of shops around here either don't offer a real warranty or won't honor it when it counts. Our whole approach is to fix the problem once — not throw a part at it and get you down the road — so you're not back in six months with the same issue. Ask us about the warranty on your specific repair when you call.
Yes — we're a Missouri state vehicle inspection station. Book it alongside your fall check and knock both out in the same visit instead of making two trips.
We do. Farm operations, contractors, and local businesses run fleets through us. Mention how many vehicles you're running when you reach out and we'll talk through scheduling that doesn't take your whole fleet off the road at once.
Call us and we'll talk through options. Depending on the situation and the vehicle, we can point you to the right way to get it in — and for some truck work we can come to it. Fastest answer is always a phone call: (417) 310-9145.
You get told what it needs, what it doesn't, and what it costs before we turn a wrench. If something can safely wait until spring, we'll say so. That's how 400+ people ended up leaving five-star reviews on this shop.
